SANGS made the decision to have their layouts at a higher level than many other club layouts to give a different perspective when viewing the layout and scenery.
This brings our layouts closer to eye level, allowing people to get more of a feel of being ‘in’ the scene, rather than looking ‘at’ the scene.
However, this does come with a down-side. When we are working under the layout – for assembly, disassembly, or general maintenance – the layout base is harder to reach.
We previously used an ordinary office chair where the backrest had been bent backward to give some support and a reclined angle, but that was less than ideal.
In September 2025, we were fortunate enough to receive a generous grant from City of Port Adelaide Enfield, which allowed us to purchase a chair designed for working on the underside of aircraft wings (of all things!), but it is ideal for our needs as well.
Members can now utilise a safe, specifically designed piece of equipment to aid the wiring and setting up and dismantling of our layouts, without discomfort and back aches.
Health and safety issues have been addressed with the purchase of an AeroCreeper – only available from the USA.
Members have commented on its ease of use, improved comfort and feeling more secure.

The AeroCreeper allows the seat to tip upwards, adding significant comfort in reclined positions. In addition, its heavy-duty casters with locks on the front, headrest, and the ergonomic seat shape, provide a safe and easy to use piece of valuable equipment.

This purchase is proudly supported by a City of Port Adelaide Enfield grant.
